Submit Your Investigative Stories: 2025 Taco Kuiper Award Now Open for Entries

The Wits Centre for Journalism has announced the call for entries for the 2025 Taco Kuiper Award for Investigative Journalism, inviting South African journalists to submit their work. This prestigious award honours exceptional investigative reporting that uncovers hidden truths, holds power to account, and critically examines public figures. Entries can be submitted by individual journalists or teams for stories published or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2024.

Submission Guidelines
Entrants are required to provide an electronic copy of their published or broadcast material. If the original is resized, a readable Word or PDF version must accompany it. For content behind paywalls, entrants should ensure judges have guest access or another means to view the work. Non-English materials must include an English translation or transcript. Additionally, a 100-word biography and photo of each entrant, a high-resolution copy of the publication or broadcaster’s logo, and a short motivation (up to 500 words) detailing the story’s background, impact, and any challenges to its accuracy or fairness are required. Broadcast entries should also include a short video clip for publicity purposes.

Award Details
The top prize for the award is R200,000, with a runner-up prize of R100,000. Entries must be submitted by 12:00 PM on February 24, 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted, and entrants will receive acknowledgment of their entry within 48 hours. The date of the award ceremony will be announced soon, with lunch to be served at the event.

Established to honour the legacy of the late investigative journalist Taco Kuiper, the award aims to promote and recognize excellence in investigative journalism in South Africa. Previous winners have tackled significant issues, shedding light on corruption, social injustices, and other critical matters affecting society.
